Last week The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) announced the release of their statistics report for 2011. Here are the bullet points.
The top five cosmetic procedures in the U.S. in 2011 were:
1) Liposuction (325,332 procedures)
2) Breast Augmentation (316,848 procedures)
3) Abdominoplasty (149,410 procedures)
4) Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) (147,540 procedures)
5) Breast lift (127,054 procedures)
As you can see, liposuction is back on top – from 2008 to 2010, breast augmentation enjoyed a brief moment as the most popular procedure, but liposuction is back up 13% from 2010.
For non-surgical procedures, Botox blew everything else out of the water, with more than 4 million procedures administered (including by physician’s assistants and nurses) in 2011. Injectable fillers (like Restylane) were the next closest with about 1.7 million procedures in 2011.
In total, Americans received more than 9 million procedures in 2011, costing almost $10 billion. Surgical procedures accounted for 18 percent of the procedures and 63 percent of the expenditures.
Men accounted for 9 percent of the procedures.
People age 35-50 had the most procedures with 43 percent of the total, followed by people age 51-64, who had 28 percent of the total number of procedures. People age 19-34 had 20 percent.
The number of surgical procedures went up almost one percent from 2010 to 2011. In conclusion, lots of people are getting work done. So if you are considering liposuction, breast augmentation, abdominoplasty, botox or restylane in El Dorado Hills or Sacramento, schedule a consultation and we’ll have you looking fabulous in no time!
